The configuration module is designed to give the client the most flexibility
possible in setting up complex, customized items for sale.
Setting up the Configuration Module
There are many areas in the Configuration Module that need to be set up
before the system will be ready to display your custom, configurable items
in the shopping cart.
The first items that will need to be set up are the configuration items. You
will need to create an item for each customizable attribute of your product.
For example, if you are selling a pair of shoes that you can add jewels or
embellishments to, you would need to set this up through the
configurations module.
You can also use this module for setting up group items, where the items in
the group can be chosen by the user. (A “build your own case or set” type
of item).
Creating a Configurable Item
es100>Inventory
NOTE: Configurable items are not ACTIVE inventory items. These are not
available for purchase individually.
1. Click “New Item”
2. When creating an item, make sure to use a naming convention. This
will make it easy to distinguish between a configuration product and
a regular product.
3. The “Product Type” needs to be set to “Configuration Product.”
4. The “Display Category” needs to be set to one that you will create
only for configuration products.
5. Make sure that all of the check boxes in the “Inventory Item can be
order from” section are unchecked. (This will prevent the item from
being available for sale in the various carts while the item is being set
up for configurations).
NOTE: This will need to be added back at the
end of the process in order for the product to display
6. Pricing would need to be set if you want to have pricing for this
configurable item. If no additional pricing is to be set, make sure to put 0.00 in
those fields (do not leave blank). To setup pricing click on “None”
under the “Click for pricing” area. Then select “New Price” from left hand
navigation and follow the standard steps for pricing entry.
Setting up Configuration Sets
Once you have created your inventory items, you will be ready to set up the
configurations so they will display in the shopping cart.
es100 > Inventory > Configuration Set
Once on the screen above there are three steps that will need to be
followed in order to complete a configuration set. Below is a listing of the
steps and a general description of what will be accomplished.
Step 1 – Manage Types – Here you will do the initial grouping of your
products that will be arranged by the types of items that you set up in the
inventory. For example – On shoes that you are adding gems to, you will
need to set up a type called gems and then associate all of the inventory
items that pertain to gems. Or for another example, building a set of “you
pick three” you would set up “types” of bottles and associate the bottles
that are able to be added to the set.
Step 2 – Manage Groups – This will contain the various types grouped
together. For example if you allow a customer to select two lotions in a gift set, you would create a group that contains two lotion types. Or if on the shoes, a user can select up to three gem types, you would create a group with three gem types.
Step 3 – Manage Sets – A set is a full collection of the configuration
options. This is where you will put together all of the options that will be
available for a specific product. Once the set is created you can then
associate this with a particular inventory item. For example, a gift set is complete with 2 lotions, 1 body wash, and 1 perfume choice. Or maa user can select 3 gems to put on their shoes, and a background ribbon.
Below are step by step screenshots to set up a configuration set.
Creating Configurations Types, Groups and Sets
Manage Types
1. Manage Type> New
a. Here you will need to enter a Name and a Description.
2. Click on “Add” to save the Type.
3. Once the Type has been created, you will need to associate the
products with the Type. To do this select the name of the type that
you created and the screen below will appear.
The type being modified will appear in the box named “Type”.
To add products to this specific Type, select the product from the Product
Dropdown, set the display order and then click on update.
NOTE: In the example above, this is for a build your own set. A user can select
multiple bottles out of 6 item choices and build their own set or group.
Continue to repeat this until all of the products that need to be associated
with the type is completed. Please keep in mind only items with the
product type set to “Configuration” will appear in the dropdown.
Once the products are added to the type, you will be able to add additional
options to each product. For example if you want the user to enter free
form text for a value of one of the products, you would click on view field
for that product and update with the necessary values.
Text – This is only for a free form text field.
Drop Down – This will create a drop down menu that will be populated by
the values that are listed in the value field. To separate the values you need
to use the pipe symbol (|) between the values. (Do NOT put a | at the end
of your list)
NOTE: The example above would be for an item like a charm that is sold in
various colors or metals. Please see next page for example of shopping cart
display.
You will see here that the user can enter 2 names for personalization, and
also select one of the color / metal options for ordering. Once you have
done this you can add your personalized products to the cart.
NOTE: Beneath the purple option in the dropdown there is a blank choice.
This is what will display if you enter a | symbol at the end.
Correct Entry Example: Gold|Silver|Bronze|Orange|Purple
Incorrect Entry Example: Gold|Silver|Bronze|Orange|Purple|
Manage Groups
Click on “Manage Groups” and click “New”. Then add the name of the
group and the description of the group. Once that has been completed you
will need to edit the group and tie the different types to the group. A
grouping allows you to associate many different types together, for
example if you wanted to have a group that displays the sizes and colors
you can create a group with those two types. You could also create
individual groups that have each type separately.
Manage Sets
Click on “Manage Sets” and click on “New” then put in the name of the set.
Once the set has been created, you will be able to associate each group
with a set. For example a set may be called shirt options and then you
would add in the groups that make up that set such as Color, size, neck cut
etc. Once you have all of the groups associated with the set, you will then
need to associate that set with an inventory item.
Once you have completed your sets here, you will need to go into the
individual inventory items that will be included to complete the setup. The
set will need to be tied to the item, and the inventory will need to be
checked for ordering.
To add a set to an item you will need to go to es100 > Inventory
Select your item then click on “Edit”
1. In the “Configuration Set” Drop down select the configuration set
that will be used for this product.
2. To show the item in the cart for ordering, you will need to select
where the item can be ordered from.
Once these steps are complete, the item will be available for ordering in
any of the shopping carts you’ve selected.
Here is another example of a configurable item that is available on the website.
Once added to the cart the user will be able to view the items and options.
